About the Authors

Yvonne Evans Morrison

Yvonne Evans Morrison is a managing partner at MVP Video & Promotions in Burlington, NC, a marketing company she and her husband own that specializes in video production and other marketing services. Yvonne writes content for websites and video scripts, among other responsibilities.

Yvonne holds a B.A. in English/Journalism from Elon College (now Elon University). The short story version of What Her Horse Told Her won first place in the 2019 Burlington Writers Club writing contest in the Adult Nonfiction category (under a different title). A native of Mebane, NC, her essay entitled “The House of Many Barns” about her parents’ tobacco barn log home was selected for publication in John Edwards’ book, Home: The Blueprints of Our Lives, which was released in 2006 by Collins.

She and her husband developed the book’s website that includes a video about Kendall and Ravi’s inspiring story with natural horsemanship. Yvonne, who is passionate about the benefits of natural horsemanship training, is Kendall Morrison’s mom and has been there for every frustrating and glorious moment Kendall and her horse, Ravi, have experienced. She is a horse lover whose favorite pastime is being a groom for Kendall at horse shows where Yvonne occasionally shows, too, with Kendall as her coach.

Kendall Morrison

Kendall Morrison, Yvonne’s daughter and the book’s main character, is a contributing writer. She lives and works in Durham, NC and shares her love of horses and natural horsemanship with anyone who has dreams of being an equestrian, whether it’s basic knowledge and experiences they want, or a more thorough understanding of the power of natural horsemanship in building a relationship with their horse.

She graduated from North Carolina State University where she majored in Science, Technology, and Society with a concentration in Food, Health, and Gender studies with a minor in Nutrition. She trained her horse Ravi beginning in 2011 when he was three years old and she was 12. Their years together culminated in success at the Palomino Youth World Show in 2017 where they won PHBA Reserve World Champion in Novice Youth Showmanship along with PHBA NSBA championships in Novice Youth Showmanship and Novice Youth Hunter Under Saddle. Kendall has been riding since she was eight years old and continues to do so.

After competing with Ravi for six years, Kendall purchased a Quarter Horse while she was still in college and competed successfully with him in the NC Quarter Horse Association for two years, winning state championships in 2018 and 2019. She has another horse, Patriot, along with two dogs and two cats. After two years as a first grade teacher, her career now focuses on developing digital resources for students.
